The Curve Theatre in Leicester is set to host a new production of Billy Elliot from13th July onwards. Based on Stephen Daldry‘s acclaimed 2000 film, the musical will run until Saturday 20th August.
The show's score is written by Elton John and based on the book and lyrics by Lee Hall, and will be directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Lucy Hind.
Child actors Alfie Napolitano and Samuel Newby are set to share the titular role, which was played by Jamie Bell in the film.
Based in County Durham during the miners’ strike of 1984/85, Billy Elliot the Musical tells the story of a young boy who falls in love with ballet despite societal and parental expectation. Telling the tale of determination, acceptance and daring to be different, can Billy transcend his working-class background in order to follow his passion?
The show originally opened in the West End in 2005 to wide critical acclaim. In its opening year, it won four Olivier Awards, including for Best New Musical.
Performances range in price between £10-£56, showing every day except Mondays. There are also a range of access performances, such as relaxed and dementia friendly showings meaning that anyone can enjoy this musical treat.
