Jason Donavon is set to rock the West End after joining the cast of Grease

Aussie heartthrob Jason Donovan has joined the cast of Grease in London's West End. The star will appear as 'Teen Angel' in select performances of the production at the Dominion Theatre, which begin on 29 June. And he isn't the first famous face to join the musical's cast, with fellow Aussie Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre starring as Vince Fontaine.

This run of the popular show is directed by Nickolai Foster and choreographed by I'm A Celebrity's Arlene Phillips. Dan Partridge (Link Larkin in Hairspray UK tour) and Olivia Moore (Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre) will star as high school sweethearts Sandy and Danny.

Speaking about his new role, the Especially for You singer said: "As a lifelong fan of the show, I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of Grease in the role of Teen Ange. While I may have missed the boat on playing Danny, the Teen Angel seemed like the perfect fit. I especially look forward to those few performances I get to perform with Peter Andre as Vince Fontaine. Who would have thought two Aussies would take to the West End in such a well-loved musical, singing the most iconic songs?"

After rising to fame in the 80s as Scott Robinson on Australian soap Neighbours, Jason,54, has forged a successful career in music and theatre. He is perhaps most famous for playing the titular role in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. He's currently starring as the Pharaoh in the show's UK tour. And he recently reprised his role as Scott in the Neighbours' series finale, set to air on 1 August in the UK.
